I create sculptures and illustrations in which motifs of transportation — such as flight, cruise, traffic signals and signage — become metaphors for metamorphosis. I have a fascination with the subject of the non-human human, those figurative objects which occupy the boundaries and interstitial zones of our reality. Betwixt and between, they are entities which mediate between living and non-living. Like the image of the crossroads — a space of choice, possibility and network flows — they are objects of continuous exchange, signals and undercurrents.
My work is inspired by the relationship between humans and objects, and the weird naturalism which exists at their fuzzy boundaries. What was once an impersonal and external object can suddenly become a carrier for the deepest intimacy. The self escapes into the world, or, the world intrudes into the self?
